The outcome is a visual collage of printed letters representing the scaffolding, overlaid with overheard phrases from the workers’ conversations. The printed letters are not just a reflection of the structure but also of the voices that fill the space, offering a quiet commentary on the relationship between labour, language, and identity. The choice of language reflects the social atmosphere of the worksite—loud, brash, and performative. This language mirrors how masculinity is often expressed in such environments, where interaction is shaped by the need to affirm group identity through humour, banter, and the reinforcement of social norms. The piece highlights my fascination with how these interactions, while playful on the surface, can reveal the underlying structures that shape behaviour, identity, and relationships in this particular work culture.
